Updating Drivers

What are drivers?
A driver is a piece of software which allows Windows to communicate with the various bits of hardware inside your PC. Most hardware requires a driver and these need to be kept up-to-date in order to ensure your PC - and Kwari - run smoothly and at optimal performance levels.

The most important drivers when playing Kwari are your video and sound card drivers. Out of date sound drivers can lead to sound not playing correctly or not at all. Out of date video drivers can cause display corruption or reduced performance. Therefore we recommend that you make sure your drivers are up-to-date at all times. Below are some steps for checking which drivers you have installed and details on where you can download the latest updates for your hardware.

To check which hardware and drivers you have installed you can use the Microsoft DirectX Diagnostic Tool - or Dxdiag, as it is sometimes called. To run this:
- Click Start
- Click Run
- Type dxdiag
- Click the Okay button

If you are running Dxdiag for the first time you will be prompted to check if your drivers are digitally signed and you should click Yes.

The DirectX Diagnostic Tool contains detailed information on the hardware inside your PC. On opening the System tab will be displayed and here you will see information on your processor, Memory - or RAM - and your current DirectX version.

To see the properties of your video card and driver click the Display tab. The details of your hardware are shown on the left and the driver is shown on the right, including the driver version and date.

You can find the same information on your sound card by clicking the Sound tab - choose Sound 1 if you have more than one available.

The latest drivers are always available from your hardware manufacturer's website. Below is a list of the most common hardware and a link to their drivers page:

Video cards
nVidia- Check for new drivers from nVidia.
ATI- Check for new drivers from ATI.
Intel- Check for new drivers from Intel.

Sound cards
Creative- Check for new drivers from Creative.

If your hardware is not listed, you should contact your PC's manufacturer or place of purchase for assistance. They will be able to tell you which drivers you need and where you can download the latest version.

If you are using a laptop we recommend that you contact the laptop manufacturer or the place of purchase for help with updating your drivers.
